"Pedagogy in Progress: Unraveling India's Educational Landscape"
In the labyrinth of the Indian education system lies a tapestry of challenges, deeply entrenched practices, and systemic flaws that have left countless students navigating a treacherous path. From outdated methodologies to glaring disparities, the system grapples with issues that demand urgent attention. This blog seeks to shed light on the darker side of the Indian education system, offering a critical analysis of its shortcomings and the pressing need for reform.
"I HATE EDUCATION" very, very strong words definitely shocks right? But today I want to share something from my heart. I want to tell you that I as a student not only till 10th but still never liked studies. I used to hate going to school as well as college😓. Because I have 3 complains through which ig you all can relate as well.
Nowadays, each and everyone reading this had heard a news about suicidal cases. And shockingly such stories are there in every corner of the country. And why this situation? Because, the pressure of studies is a lot. Competition is a good thing, but at certain limits. Today this competition has become an unhealthy competition. Where even after getting 99% marks they don't get there preferred college. Today in India 1 out of 3 students says that the pressure for studying is very high. NIH (National Institute of Mental Health) that 1 out 5 students at least once in their student life can go through serious health problems.
If you have good teachers then you are lucky. But to be honest, teachers usually focus on 10% best students of their class and compare all other students with them. Some teachers forget that every child is unique everyone has different skills and grasping capacity. Teachers generally don't listen and parents scold students when they say's something. So whom a should student talk to ?? We need an OMBUDSMAN. Ombudsman is a independent person who has connection neither with teachers nor with the parents. World's best education system is in Finland where the focus is on overall development of student.
In 2012, there was a debate in Parliament where it was proposed that in high pressure, institution like IIM and IIT let Ombudsman be appointed. But its been 10+ years, and this thing is forgotten. Our education system lacks counselling along with the day to day problems who guides students about their career as well. Without any judgement who tries to solve problems of the students. Its not like all students are innocent some just makes excuses.
COMPLAINT NO- 2 : Factory of Robots
THOMAS MACHAULY , once I get a time machine, i am going to end this person 1st. Because whatever problems we have in our education is because of this great personality. In 19th century, He roamed around Indian and he saw the education system here is very good. Till we had our old education system till then on the basis of divide and rule it was impossible to break India so they brought English education system basically they made us an English speaking slave, they cut off our roots and enforced this on us. That, whatever is local is of no use Macaulay's only objective was to create people who look like Indians but are Englishmen in thoughts. Okay western education was not just evil they also brought some good concepts, but big problem is they made us an robot. They made us an obedient servant. They made a robot who will silently work in the factory, doesn't violate rules and most importantly listen to everything what their superior says. And even after 75 years of independence we still follow this English education system😑. British came and went for our problems of today till when we are going to blame them? All these and problems which exists today we have raised them and we have to solve it. Today, our education systems kills our individuality itself we are made into a corporate slave. Where AI, robots are getting creative, though by our education itself we are killing our creativity if it continues like this Robots may or may not replace us but for sure we will replace robots.
COMPLAINT NO- 3: Unfair Advantage
Imagine, if you are running a race where you start from 10 feet away from your competitor , will you consider this race as fair? Life is that kind of a race life is not fair. And our education system is similar. Before the race of life starts its been decided for us what our starting line will be. And when the school starts our education system encourages only 1 type of learners. Those who can memorize and write in exams. For getting into IIT's and IIMS's you have to score good marks there can be 8 different types of learners. Some have a photographic memory, they can remember by just seeing it, some are kinesthetic learners who learn through activity, they can't focus just by sitting while some are auditory learners who learn by listening. The neurons of different people fire differently in the same situation.
Now, there is space for different types of learners those who have a visual memory can become a good travel guide, artist, athlete or a musician, bloggers😌. These are those fields about which don't get exposure in school/colleges as well . We all are special we all have some unfair advantage. Our education system system must groom an individual and help them in identifying their unfair advantage and not clip off their wings.
As we dissect the system, it becomes evident that a radical transformation is not just a luxury, but a necessity. Reforms must go beyond superficial adjustments and delve deep into the very core of pedagogy, assessment, and infrastructure. It is time to shift the focus from producing examination toppers to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills💫
